When should I schedule my first pregnancy appointment?

Dr. Nikkhah Abyaneh can help you determine when to schedule your first pregnancy appointment. The timing of your first visit may depend on your medical history. In general, the first pregnancy appointment is scheduled eight weeks after your last menstrual period.

What can I expect during my first prenatal care appointment?

Dr. Nikkhah Abyaneh is an experienced OB/GYN who’s dedicated to providing you with the highest quality care throughout your entire pregnancy. Because each woman’s pregnancy is unique to her, no appointment is like another.

However, you can expect your first visit with Dr. Nikkhah Abyaneh to be the longest. During your first visit, she:

  • Confirms pregnancy
  • Estimates due date
  • Conducts a physical and pelvic exam
  • Runs blood work
  • Reviews you and your partner’s medical and family history
  • Reviews your gynecological history

After your exam, Dr. Nikkhah Abyaneh answers all of your questions and concerns. She talks to you about your pregnancy, including what to expect and how to stay safe and healthy throughout the gestation.

She also reviews the types of testing you may need during your pregnancy and when they may be done, including ultrasounds, testing for anemia, and a glucose tolerance test to assess for gestational diabetes.

The frequency of your appointments varies based on where you are in your pregnancy, and ranges from once a month to once a week, with more frequent visits the closer you get to your due date.

What if my pregnancy is high risk?

Dr. Nikkhah Abyaneh is an experienced OB/GYN who provides prenatal care for both normal and high-risk pregnancies. You are considered high risk if:

  • You’re a teen or 35 and older
  • You’re carrying twins
  • You have an underlying health issue, such as diabetes
  • You develop a condition during your pregnancy, such as preeclampsia

If your pregnancy is high risk, Dr. Nikkhah Abyaneh schedules more frequent prenatal visits throughout your pregnancy, along with additional testing.

What are my delivery options?

Dr. Nikkhah Abyaneh reviews your delivery options during your pregnancy and works one-on-one with you to devise a plan that makes you happy and comfortable. While you may prefer a vaginal delivery, if a cesarean section is needed, you’re in good hands with Dr. Nikkhah Abyaneh.
